If you zoom out of your current location, spin the Earth a few times around, then zoom in to Denmark, you can see the island of Sjælland with the Danish capital Copenhagen. North of Copenhagen there is Fredensborg, where the Danish Royal Family is spending their springs and autumns. No, the conference is not at the Royal Palace, but next to it – welcome to Danhostel Fredensborg, located at Østrupvej 3, 3480 Fredensborg.
Nearby you can walk to and admire lake Esrum, which is the second biggest in Denmark (17,3 km²). It is also safe (if not cold in April) to swim.
From Copenhagen airport
- With public transport, it takes just under one hour and a half to reach the venue location. Use the local portal rejseplannen (in English) to find out how, the site takes into account train route changes, delays etc. Rejseplannen can also calculate the ticket price for you. Or in case all you’ve got is this text, then from the airport, take the regional train towards Helsingør, stop in Kokkedal, change to bus 365R, stop at station Fredensborg Skole, Benediktevej, then walk 900m (15 min) to the hostel, which is near the Fredensborg Royal Palace. There are ticket machines in the airport, and they accept credit cards.
- A taxi from the airport to the hostel will be quite expensive (about 800 DKK which is above 100 euro one way). You can order a taxi and calculate the price online.
From Malmø airport, Sweden
The low cost nearby Swedish airport is also a viable option. All low cost flights offer a discounted bus to Copenhagen main train station, from where you can use rejseplannen to get your itinerary. Rejseplannen can also calculate the ticket price for you. Take the regional train towards Helsingør, stop in Kokkedal, change to bus 365R, stop at station Fredensborg Skole, Benediktevej, then walk 900m (15 min) to the hostel, which is near the Fredensborg Royal Palace. There are ticket machines at the train station, and they accept credit cards. In total, expect about 3-4 hours from Malmø airport to the conference location.
There is free parking at the hostel. As we will be on a (rather big) island, remember to either book a ferry or buy a bridge ticket in advance.
